Float Pool/Registered Nurse (Rn) Job Description

Here is more about our great Float Pool Team: We are proud to offer a dynamic nursing experience by providing the opportunity to work in multiple care areas spanning the lifespan. With this unique opportunity we specifically tailor the orientation and extensive education experience to match each individuals background and experience to successfully provide patient care and advance nursing practice. Eventually a Float Pool nurse will be trained to work in multiple areas of the hospital including: Orthopedic/Neurology/Surgical (ONS), Medical/Oncology, Progressive Care Unit, Cardiac Intervention Unit, Intensive Care Unit, 3rd Medical/Surgical, Emergency Department, Pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Post-Partum/Newborn Nursery, Hospice House, Rehabilitation, and Endoscopy.

Essential Job Functions

  • In collaboration with the patient and patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team, deliver quality care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient needs.

  • Demonstrate compassion in providing care and clinical competency by using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.

  • Focus on safe and quality care by documenting according to established standards and participating in data collection for current studies.

  • Assist in Regional Health’s strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement

  • Identifies learning needs of patient, family, and staff. Serves as an educator, mentor, consultant, and resource to patients, colleagues, other health care professionals, and the community.

  • Influences multi-disciplinary relationships by enhancing collaborative processes. Shows willingness to share through teaching.

    To ensure patient safety and clinical quality, this role requires the following education, licensure, and experience:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing

  • South Dakota  Registered Nurse license

  • ACLS/BLS certification or obtained within 6 months of hire

  • Telemetry experience

Education/Experience/Certification/Licensure

Current South Dakota Registered Nurse license required

BSN preferred

1-2 years of experience in an acute care setting

Physical Demands: Medium Work: Lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time, with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Work Hours: This is not an on-call or optional worked position. All hours are supported with the same standard in specialty units. Low Census, although minimal, is shared with the other scheduled staff hospital wide. We offer a flexible schedule in the float pool for our staff. An even split of day shift and night shift is required. Straight night shifts are also allowed. Eight hour shifts and/or twelve hour shifts are available to choose from. Every third weekend and two holidays a year are a minimum.
